Rwebitaba’s specialty teas are the latest antidote in solving Uganda’s tea industry woes. Made from the cottage factory at the Tea Research Center, the specialties present low cost value addition opportunities with high value niche market potential. This cottage factory was opened by the NARO Director General Dr. Yona Baguma on the first ever Tea Day celebrated on the eve of World Food Day 2025 at Rwebitaba TRC. These opportunities include products like;
Rwebitaba White tea, a delicate, minimally processed tea made from the youngest buds and unopened leaves of the tea plant. It is simply hand-harvested and immediately dried, allowing for virtually no oxidation, which preserves a naturally light, sweet flavor and a high concentration of nutrients
Rwebitaba Green Tea is made from unoxidized tea leaves. It is virtually calorie-free and is best known for its high concentration of polyphenols (antioxidants)—particularly catechins as well as caffeine and L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes relaxation.
Rwebitaba Oolong Tea is a traditional Chinese tea made from the partially oxidized tea leaves. Falling between unoxidized green tea and fully oxidized black tea, its oxidation level typically ranges from 8% to 85%, resulting in a massive variety of flavors ranging from floral and sweet to woody and roasted
Rwebitaba Premium black tea, a high-grade, whole-leaf tea carefully selected from the finest harvests. Unlike standard supermarket tea bags (often made from low-grade, machine-crushed leaves), this premium tea retains natural oils and antioxidants, offering a much smoother, richer, and complex flavor profile with no bitterness
