On March 31, 2025, the National Crops Resources Research Institute (NaCRRI) marked a significant milestone as the newly appointed Advisory Committee officially assumed office. The event was presided over by the Director General of the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO), Dr. Yona Baguma.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Baguma commended the outgoing committee for their dedicated service and the instrumental role they played in strengthening NaCRRI’s position as a leader in agricultural innovation.
“NARO appreciates your outstanding contributions that have enhanced NaCRRI’s impact and visibility,” he said.
He further underscored the critical role of the incoming committee in providing strategic leadership and advancing research initiatives that support farmers, improve food security, and drive innovation.
“You are expected to work with a clear roadmap and harness collective expertise to deliver on NaCRRI’s vision,” he advised.
Outgoing Chairperson Dr. Gad Gumisiriza reflected on his six-year tenure with pride and optimism:
“It has been an honor to serve. I am confident that the new team, under Dr. Denise Kyetere’s leadership, will elevate NaCRRI to even greater heights.”
Dr. Kyetere, the incoming Chairperson, expressed her commitment to collaborative leadership and reaffirmed her support for NaCRRI’s mission:
“I look forward to working closely with the team to uphold NaCRRI’s vision as a center of excellence in crop research.”
Welcoming the committee, NaCRRI Director Dr. Titus Alicai expressed enthusiasm for the journey ahead:
“We are excited to have the new committee on board and look forward to their insights in shaping the institute’s future.”
As a gesture of appreciation, outgoing committee members were presented with Certificates of Appreciation and commemorative plaques. The event concluded with a symbolic tree-planting ceremony, representing growth, sustainability, and a renewed commitment to NaCRRI’s mission.
